We’re 8 months into the year and what a year it’s been. I’m sure we all received our own doses of, “and now you need to pay attention and maybe change while you’re at it” that knocked us off balance or maybe knocked us into alignment. I like how the latter one sounds so we’re going to go with that. Truthfully, I’m dealing with a pre-birthday month “thing.” I’m used to feeling a little nostalgic about leaving one age behind and some lessons usually rear their head but this time has been different.
To change the pace of things, my mom and I decided to have a girl’s day out this past Saturday. Remember when I said it’s a treat when we do decide to do something different on the weekend? That pretty much sums up our Saturday. I did have to head back to the doctor for a quick appointment [read: 2 hours] first and after getting the A-okay that things are all good, my mom and I headed to one of our favorite little cafes called La Madeleine. At least I think it counts as a cafe. We stumbled across this quaint eatery shortly after we first moved to Georgia and it’s become a staple. We don’t live close to the locations here in Georgia so we had to make a little drive. Trust me when I say it was well worth it though.
I couldn’t wait to dig into the Chicken La Madeleine dish I ordered and even though it doesn’t look like a lot, it filled me up! I only ate a few bites of the pasta salad before realizing I needed a small to go cup.
Since we were near the mall, my mom and I couldn’t help but walk around for a bit. Sadly our mall trip was kind of a bust. It was fun walking around and talking to my mom but it was very crowded (back to school shopping) and our favorite stores’ charms no longer work on us. You can see some of our outing on my IGTV channel (click the thumbnail to start the video).
Now I have to be 100% honest with you. I planned on wearing a completely different outfit but after realizing I didn’t like the fit of my shorts, this bodysuit kept popping into my mind. When I first wore it was only for a couple of hours and then I took it off as soon as I got home. I don’t always wear risque things out because I’ve tried not to disrespect my parents, who are on the conservative side, and because I’ve always felt like people would turn their noses up. Deciding to wear this outfit for more than a couple of hours, complete with this very bodysuit from MATTE definitely made me feel self conscious at first but as time passed, I started to get comfortable. Did I get a few stares? You bet. My mom didn’t even pay attention to what I was wearing until we stopped to put gas in her car and she said, “uhm, you’re showing a lot.” Usually that would make me wish I never wore something but I smiled and said, “eh, it’s just a lace bodysuit and I’m wearing my blazer so it’s okay.”
I just stopped caring as much and focused on the fact that this outfit is a look…one I dared myself to wear and thanked myself for following through. In a way this bodysuit became one of my trophy pieces this weeknd. If you look at my Instagram page then you know how I feel about blazers but these jeans are my favorite as well. They are my first pair of mom jeans and they make me want to never wear a pair of skinny jeans again. They’re extremely comfortable and I snagged them for $20 during the early part of Zara’s summer sale. I haven’t been wearing heels as much as I used to because comfort is key, ha! All jokes aside, I’m so used to wearing flats at work that I just figured it would be easier to slip into my trusted black sandals from Kohl’s. The bob box braids are still going strong and I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to long box braids again. I have truly been missing out.
If you’re wondering where my mom is, she’s not really big on taking pictures to be featured on the blog so I made sure to respect her privacy. My parents, maybe aside from my biological dad, don’t really care for being on social media or taking too many pictures. That should give you a hint as to who I get some of my characteristics from.
