This post is long overdue and serves as a sweet treat after my last post. I promised I would review the Bobbi Brown’s Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF 15($46.00) when I bought it and then I bought the Maybelline New York Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation ($12.00). I absolutely love both and, in my opinion, I feel like the Maybelline New York Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation can be used as a dupe for the Bobbi Brown’s Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF 15. While I love both of the foundations, I realize that they were a shade or two off. Maybe I’m a little snobby but I really wanted to find a foundation that actually matches my skin color. There was just one problem standing in my way.
I had no idea what my undertone was until I marched myself into Sephora and asked for help. A part of me was leaning towards buying Fenty Beauty‘s Pro-Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation($34.00) but I needed a shade reference! After finding out that shade 440 matches me perfectly, I thought about buying it. However, beauty vlogger Jackie Aina’s “What We Never Knew We Needed? Beauty Bakerie Foundations” convinced me I needed to start paying attention to the Beauty Bakerie brand. It’s not that I didn’t pay attention to the brand before but I just never bought anything from them.
It’s no secret that I’m big on supporting black owned businesses so I was very happy to send my coins to Beauty Bakerie when their Cake Mix Demi-Matte Foundation($28.00) launched a couple of weeks ago. After watching beauty blogger Jackie Aina’s video “What We Never Knew We Needed? Beauty Bakerie Foundations,“, I decided to buy the Beauty Bakerie Wake & Bake Hydrating Face Oil($28.00) as well. The oil claims to work for all skin types from dry to oily and is vegan. Although I’m not particularly snobby about things like this, I am trying to be more mindful of the products I put on my skin so this was a huge plus for me. I purchased the foundation in the shade #11 and it looks like a brown bottle of yummy goodness.
For extra measure, Beauty Bakerie slipped another foundation in the next shade up in my package (they did this for everyone who ordered their foundation for the first time). I thought this was a nice touch because sometimes our skin isn’t exactly one shade and it made me really respect the brand that much more. The other thing I love? They created a shade system that numbers their darkest shade as #1. Typically darker foundations are at the end of the shading system with most brands but CEO Cashmere Nicole decided to change the game.
Which Foundation Ranks #1?
After careful consideration and periods of wearing each foundation, I am hooked on Beauty Bakerie’s Cake Mix Demi-Matte Foundation. That’s not to say that the other foundations in my makeup bag are trash because they are far from it. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the foundations I listed but I love the Cake Mix Demi-Matte Foundation because it matches my skin color perfectly. I feel like it makes my skin color pop. I mean, it’s like they took my skin color and made it flow in a pretty bottle and marketed it to perfection. This is how you represent for the brown girls.
One Small Tip
I typically use a foundation brush to apply my foundation but I decided to try something different. I decided to apply the Cake Mix Demi-Matte Foundation with the beauty blending egg that was also included in my package and I prefer using that better with this foundation. From my experience, this product works better if you work in sections because it dries down a little quicker than most foundations. If you are going to use a beauty blender, be sure to pat the product into your face instead of dragging it across your face.
