Finally! This post was supposed to be ready to go last week but sometimes life happens. Okay, the truth is that I’ve had my hand in different pots. Let’s just the preparation season is real. Nevertheless, we’re back on track!
I don’t really celebrate July 4th anymore so this isn’t an outfit post about that. It just so happens that I’m off for the rest of the week and I have time to create + do things I wanted to do with zero work obligations taking up the majority of the day. As the title says, this is the second installment of the Polka Dot Segment. I have other polka dot pieces but I’m trying not to bombard you with all things polka dot even though I really want to. I chose to share the two pieces I felt made a statement and the first item was the polka dot “blazer” of course. I put blazer in quotes because different people kept calling it a top and when I first tried it on my mom said, “you know you could just wear that as a top.” So there you have it; a blazer top.
Now this second item. Where do I start besides the polka dot print? I came across it on TOPSHOP‘s site while doing my usual online window shopping. Before you get on me and remind me about my frugal post (where I’m ironically wearing a polka dot top), just know I planned for this dress and made sure it wouldn’t place a dent in my budget. NOW, back to the wow factors. I love the puff sleeve look but I’ve always been afraid it wouldn’t look right on me. Short girls have to be conscious of what we wear so we don’t overpower our frame. The last thing we want is for our outfits to wear us instead of us wearing the outfit. Get it? No matter how hard I tried though, I couldn’t take my eyes off the silhouette of this dress and the cutout back action. Let’s just zoom in shall we?
This dress is giving cute summer tea party vibes in the front and in the back it’s giving you “show me” vibes. You know how I feel about balance and fusing opposites together. Of course I would get a dress like this because I feel it perfectly sums up a Libra’s personality. We’re often lauded for our ability to be sweet and balanced most of the time. We can be subtle in our interactions at first and then we lay on the charm like butter. And that’s how exactly how this dress feels. Like butter.
As far as my accessories go, I mentioned this straw basket bag (similar here, here and here) from TOPSHOP in a post on my Instagram page but I don’t really need it. This was wholeheartedly an impulse buy but it looks damn good with different outfits and resting nicely on my clothing rack. If I don’t use it for an everyday bag you better believe it’s going to be used as an aesthetic storage piece for my room. Today it’s getting some sunshine on a beautiful summer day.
Also I’m going to note that my spring/early summer braids are going bye bye THIS weekend. I have more content planned but after that I’m going to commit to wearing my natural hair until the end of September. That’s a little over two months so we’ll see how this works. Wish me luck!
