The 3 Home Trends I’m Loving in 2023

Who knew that becoming an adult meant gaining an interest in home decor? Surely the younger version of myself missed the memo. I mean, I have memories of being dragged to stores like Pier 1 and the home department of Macy’s or Sears. To a young kid, nothing could have triggered my boredom more than looking at linen bed sheets or paint.

But adult Jasmine can spend an hour in Kirkland’s or Home Goods with a huge grin on her face. From room sprays to wall shelves, my fiance knows I’m coming home with a new addition. He may complain about it but he enjoys watching me add to our space to help make it feel like the home we envision.

Since we’ve become more serious about that, I’ve been thinking about the home trends I feel drawn to.

modern contemporary

Modern contemporary blends the designs of what’s currently trending with elements from the early to mid-twentieth century. In terms of modern pieces, think wood, leather and overall sleek lines. On the other hand, contemporary pieces aren’t defined by a singular trend and encompass almost every home decor style you can think of. By far, this is my fiancé and I’s favorite home trend for several reasons. The more obvious one is that he gets to enjoy more classic styles while I get to enjoy the fluidity of whatever’s trending. WE particularly love bouclé accent chairs, similar to the CB2 Stature Dining Chair.

Boho

This trend speaks to me because it's a nod to the days I used to run around outside barefoot. I didn’t know it then but there was something grounding about walking on the grass or pavement without any shoes on. My mom couldn’t stand it but as soon as she’d turn her back, I’d kick my shoes off and run around gleefully. One of my favorite aspects of this trend is the many ways one can utilize rattan. From sideboards to upholstered accent chairs, especially the latter, this trend reminds me to slow down and appreciate the beauty of life.

P.S. Did you grow up in a household that had a vintage rattan chair similar to this?

eclectic/Glam

These trends are very audacious which is what I love about it. You could argue that the eclectic and glam home decor styles are one in the same. This is where mixing prints and patterns comes into the picture to create a visual element that oddly makes sense. Think leopard print and stripes. That’s by far one of my favorite pattern combinations. Aside from that, I love the chicness of a gold-trimmed furniture. Whether it’s a mirror or bookshelf, in my opinion, a pop of gold adds personality to a room.

It may not seem like it but the way we choose to decorate our homes speaks volumes. In a way, I feel like decorating your space is another form of creative expression. In other words, home decor gives a glimpse of someone’s personality and interests.
