Staci P. of Coco & Click

Blogger Staci P

Today marks our first style spotlight feature of 2015 and I couldn’t be more happier to bring in the new year featuring a fellow blogger by the name of Staci P. Unafraid of mixing prints, sporting faux fur and thrift shopping, Staci P. of Coco & Click is one stylish blogger who has the whole “no fuss” style down packed. Allowing her style to be as fluid as she wants, Staci P. is able to transition between casual, feminine and thrifted looks with no hesitation in between. During a time where it seems that the art of dressing for yourself is on the rise, Staci’s style reminds us why personal style is person

I was able to interview Staci P. briefly to get a peek into her mind regarding her personal style and her responses do not disappoint. Be sure to check out the interview below:

Nai’s Visions: Thank you for allowing Nai’s Visions to feature you within our Style Spotlight series. Can you tell the readers a little about yourself?

Staci P.: My name is Staci. I am a style blogger from NJ. I am the creator and writer behind Coco & Click.

“I dress to impress the mirror and shop to impress my pockets.”

This past May, I started to embrace my natural hair and journey into loving my curls. I’m just like everyone else, trying to figure this life thing out and have fun while doing it! x

NV: I hear that! At what point would you say that you began to cultivate the sense of style that you have today and how do you feel that it relates to who you are?

SP: My style really evolved after college. I went to a HBCU, where every time you hit the pavement it was a fashion show. I didn’t fully embrace it then, but when I came back home and started working in retail again — everything came together. I became a celebrity stylist; I did some personal shopping. Now, my style continuously evolves every day. I’m constantly donating clothes I’m completely over. Haha!

NV: Perhaps I need to follow suit in terms of donating some items that I just don’t wear anymore. While I am aware that some people lean towards donning labels, I am aware that this is not the case for everyone. How do you sum up your sense of style?

SP: I wouldn’t say I like labels either. I understand them. I respect designer labels. And some designers, I actually follow and love. But, am I buying something just because it’s designer? No. Not a chance. I am firm believer that anyone can have fashion but not everyone has style. I like to look at myself like a situational dresser.

“Tell me where I’m going; I’ve got an outfit in mind.”

NV: I could not help but take note of your beautiful faux fur collection. There is something timeless about pairing a faux fur vest/coat with a chosen look. Can you offer some style tips to those who may be interested in incorporating faux fur into their wardrobe?

SP: Do it! Just go for it. The moment faux fur came back on the scene; it’s always been incorporated in my wardrobe. Over tees, over jackets, over dresses — just say yes!

NV: Has there ever been a time where you found it hard to maintain your personal style in regards to season changes? If so, how did you overcome this?

SP: I used to be very self-conscious about my thighs as a teen. Especially my stretch marks. So in the summer, I rarely wore dresses that showed off my thighs; NEVER shorts, & bathing suits for girl time only! One summer I looked at myself in the mirror and realized, I’ve got thighs and hips and they aren’t going anywhere. Jeans in the summer gets old fast! So, little by little — I started to wear shorter dresses. The next year, it was shorts. By college, I was in a 2-piece bathing suit, still only around friends. I overcame it by embracing and loving my new body. I still do the same when I fluctuate in weight now. Fall allows me to cover up but in the summer, I have to adjust some. It’s all good though. That’s what life is about, and it challenges me to really be creative with my personal style!

“I’m a DIY queen, lol.”

NV: Seeing that thrift shopping is something that you partake in, how did your interest in thrifting begin?

SP:College, for sure. All the girls were doing it, coming back with all of the goodies. I needed in. And I have never looked back since!

NV: For someone who may be new to thrift shopping, can you share a few beginner tips with our readers?

SP: Be patient. Be prepared to get dirty. Remember one’s trash is another person’s treasure. Be creative — you may find a dress that works better as a skirt. Keep your mind and style open.

NV: Last but not least, tell the readers one thing that you feel is important in terms of cultivating or remaining true to one’s personal style.

SP: Remain true but don’t limit yourself. You’ll miss out on so many things! And that doesn’t just work for personal style, in life too! Keep an open mind and you’ll be surprised what you may find in your lap!

Please tell me that I am not the only one who adores the quote, “I dress to impress the mirror and shop to impress my pockets.” I dare say that I have a new motto in terms of shopping and personal style. One thing that I have noticed with each feature within the Style Spotlight series is that whoever is being featured makes sure to note that they’ve had to learn how to be comfortable with themselves.

This is why the elements of personal style are so interesting because each person may differ from each other in terms of point-of-view, creativity and experiences which correlates to how they choose to dress. If you enjoyed today’s Style Spotlight feature then be sure to follow her blog, Coco & Click, as well as her other social media handles!
